One of Canada’s largest commercial printers has acquired Toronto-based data mining and analytics company, Tener Solutions Group. The new addition will round out the data management capabilities of Montreal-based Transcontinental’s interactive marketing sector, which includes Transcontinental’s direct marketing capabilities, customer contact centre, e.solutions expertise and data management.
Aeroplan travels south of the border
Aeroplan, Air Canada’s loyalty program, is launching a co-branded credit card program in the U.S. this summer with MBNA America Bank N.A. The agreement allows U.S. residents who hold Aeroplan Platinum Plus, Preferred and Quantum credit cards to accumulate Aeroplan Miles.
Canadian orgs partner to grow online ad business
The Internet Advertising Bureau of Canada (IAB Canada) and the Bureau de la publicité sur Internet au Québec (BPIQ) have teamed up to create a national voice for the Internet advertising and marketing industry across Canada. IAB Canada and its Quebec Chapter will continue their shared mandate to deliver research and education to the interactive marketing community. IAB Canada currently has over 100 members, composed of publishers, advertisers, ad agencies and service providers.
Internet actually aids malls
Far from being the death of shopping malls, the Internet is helping bricks-and-mortar retailers generate sales, according to a Ryerson University study. The study – which surveyed 2,000 shoppers at three malls in the Greater Toronto Area – found that consumers who browse the Internet may be an underestimated source of sales for retailers: 34.5% of consumers usually check the Internet for product information; 25.1% check the Internet for store and mall information; and 25.4% had visited the Web site of retailers within a mall in the past three months.
CMA rolls out marketing courses
Last month, the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) unveiled a professional certification program for marketers. The certification program, which initially includes courses in CRM, advanced database marketing, direct marketing and e-marketing, was designed to create a professional standard; develop members’ expertise and career potential; and build the talent pool in Canada. Future courses will include branding, B2B marketing, call centre management and PR.
