CLIENTS:

Ron Caughlin has been appointed VP, marketing with Toronto-based Playdium Entertainment. In his new role, Caughlin will be responsible for the planning and management of integrated marketing programs, including the company’s first consumer loyalty program. Prior to joining Playdium, Caughlin served as VP, client services with Cossette Communication-Marketing.

Robert Koven has been named president and CEO of Toronto-based Combined Telecom Inc. (CTI). In his new position, Koven will be charged with developing industry relationships, directing CTI’s service and development team and delivering innovative telecommunications services to Canadian businesses. Prior to his appointment, Koven was the founder and president of Liazon Communications.

AGENCIES:

Montreal-based agency PALM Publicité Marketing has named Nicolas Daneau art director. He comes to the agency from DKY, where he worked as a graphic artist.

Saatchi & Saatchi Canada has announced a number of promotions at its Toronto office. Melissa Grevstad, previously account executive, has been promoted to account supervisor on Oil Of Olay and So Good. Lindsay Holman has been promoted from account supervisor to account director on Toyota, while Taso Mascalidis has taken Holman’s place. Mascalidis was previously account executive. Susan Walker, meanwhile, has been promoted from account supervisor to account director, working primarily on McNeil Consumer Products. The agency has also added some entirely new faces to its team. In the media department, Rosina Di Felice has been appointed senior media planner, and Rachael Smith has joined the agency as group media director. Blain Harper joins Saatchi as copywriter, while Peter Marsh has been appointed director of Saatchi’s new interactive division.

Kathleen Barnard has been appointed senior account manager at London, Ont.-based Stainless Steele Communications. Barnard has held a number of senior positions on both the agency and client side, including her most recent post as account supervisor with London, Ont.-based Cormark Communications.

Julie Wright has been appointed senior associate at Vancouver-based communications firm Quay Strategies. Wright, who has worked in both marketing communications and journalism, most recently established her own communications firm. Previously, she handled marketing promotion and PR for a B.C. credit union.

MEDIA:

Phillip Crawley has been named publisher and chief executive officer of The Globe and Mail, assuming the duties of Roger Parkinson, who will remain as chairman. Crawley, who is currently the Globe’s president and chief operating officer, previously served as managing director of the New Zealand Herald, before joining the Toronto-based daily newspaper in October, 1998. Crawley also spent four years as managing director of The Times’ educational, higher education and literary supplements in London, England.

Art Reitmayer has been named president and CEO of WIC Television, a division of Vancouver-based WIC Western International Communications. Reitmayer, who has 15 years’ senior management experience in the broadcast industry, has spent time at a number of WIC divisions, including his most recent position as president and chief executive officer of BCTV and CHEK-TV.
