Budget Rent a Car has picked Toronto-based Young & Rubicam to handle its Canadian assignment after a three-month review.

Previous agency was DDB Needham of Toronto.

Bill Power, y&r president and chief executive officer, says planning for 1993 will begin right away.

Other Canadian shops on the short-list were Grey Canada, J. Walter Thompson, D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and Camp Associates.

Tracy-Locke/DDB Needham (Dallas), Budget’s agency-of-record in the u.s., had been helping to service the account and was initially on the short-list.

The shop withdrew from the race because of the need for an agency with a national and regional Canadian presence.

Budget Rent a Car has nearly 3,400 locations worldwide, with 480 in Canada. PS
