Merger produces new T.O. agency

New Toronto agency Griffin Bacal Volny has been formed through the partnership of Paul Phelan & Perry and Griffin Bacal Canada.

Peter Volny, Paul Phelan president and sole owner, maintains an ownership stake in the new firm and continues as president.

Paul Phelan & Perry, established in 1951, ranked as Canada’s 51st largest agency last year with billings of $10 million.

Estimated 1993 billings for Griffin Bacal Volny are in excess of $20 million.

New York-based independent Griffin Bacal has had a Toronto office for the past few years to handle media buying for toy companies Hasbro, Milton Bradley, and Playschool.

Billings have been about $5 million annually.

Paul Phelan’s portion of the client list includes BMW Motorcycles, The Borden Company, Lada, Mercury Marine, NGK Spark Plugs, Wynn’s and Yokohama Tires.

Fifteen-year-old Griffin Bacal reported 1992 billings of US$225 million.

Its u.s. client roster includes Brooks athletic footwear, Lipton, and Sharp Electronics.

Its Business Marketing Communications Group lists companies such as Fuji Electric, Maxell Corp. and Olin Ciba-Geigy.

Griffin Bacal has offices in London and Athens.
