There were no Canadian winners at the first annual Cresta Awards ceremony staged recently at the Danube Palace in Budapest.

Two Canadian creative directors were part of the judging team at the Nov. 9 international awards program for visual communications, put on by Creative Standards International of New York and endorsed by the International Advertising Association.

Larry Tolpin, executive vice-president and chief creative officer of McKim Baker Lovick/ BBDO, and Douglas Linton, director of creative services with Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly of Toronto, were included in the International Grand Jury, which represented 27 countries.

There were entries from 52 countries.

The 57 winners from 16 countries included 31 tv commercials and 26 print entries.

The Consumer Competition Grand Prix went to Leo Burnett, Oslo, for ‘Naked Lunch,’ a tv spot for Braathens SAFE airlines, and another Cresta for a second commercial in the series.

Lewis Moberly of London won four awards in packaging, and film director Joe Pytka claimed awards for 14 winning tv commercials.

Other multiple winners include Verba DDB Needham, Milan; PMSvW/Young & Rubicam, Amsterdam; Ogilvy & Mather Rightford Searle-Tripp & Makin, Cape Town, South Africa; Casadevall Pedreno, Barcelona; Solucion BDDP Target, Barcelona; Leo Burnett Company, Chicago; DDB Needham Worldwide, New York; and Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York.
