Domino effect has KFC Canada acct. up for grabs

Kentucky Fried Chicken Canada is reviewing its account, estimated at more than $4 million, in light of the recent global alignment of all kfc business outside of the u.s. with Ogilvy & Mather.

Young & Rubicam previously held the bulk of kfc’s international business.

The Canadian assignment is currently with y&r in Toronto, and the $150-million u.s. account remains with y&r.

Last month, the US$9 million u.k. assignment moved to o&m and started a domino effect that put the rest of the company’s $80-million international account under review.

Matt Kelly, director of strategic planning for KFC Canada, says a decision on the business will be made carefully and quickly.

Kelly says the company has no desire to change agencies, but adds the issue is more complex than that because of the strength of a global alignment.

He says any decision to move the business would not be based on business results.

He says kfc, unlike other fast food restaurants, uses Canadian-made creative and is not concerned about maintaining consistency with u.s. campaigns.
