Chicken soup, the soothing age-old home remedy for cold and flu sufferers, is the inspiration for the newest Tylenol brand product from McNeil Consumer Products Company.
Tylenol Cold & Flu Medication, Chicken Soup Flavour is now on drugstore shelves in time for this season of sniffles and sore throats.
The powered product is sold in boxes of eight single-dose pouches which, when mixed with hot water, gives users the aroma and taste of chicken soup in combinations with medications including Tylenol’s acetaminophen pain and fever reliever.
Each year, Canadians spend about $287 million for cough and flu remedies.
Some direct marketing for Tylenol Cold & Flu, Chicken Soup Flavour has already started and will soon be followed by a mixed-media campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising.
In the powdered remedy category, Tylenol is battling Neo Citran, the brand that controls 70% of the marketplace.
Other competitors are private label products from chains such as Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharma Plus.
