Visa inaugurates Cash card testing

Visa Canada has launched a trial of its Visa Cash store- value card with its employees in Toronto, Vancouver and Quebec.

During the market trials, Les caisses Desjardins, Scotiabank, Toronto-Dominion Bank and Vancouver City Savings Credit Union will issue a limited number of Visa Cash cards.

Visa expects the Cash cards to be used for consumer purchases of $10 or less and will target merchants such as fast food, transit and convenience stores to take part in the trials.

A limited consumer test will begin sometime this spring with full rollout planned for 1997.

The test card is a pre-paid disposable card, but a reloadable feature will be introduced this year, which will allow the card to be reloaded at abms (automatic bank machines.)

Visa’s agency of record is Leo Burnett of Toronto. PS
