DDB Clorox win follows U.S. shift from FCB: Laundry additive, home cleaning brands

The Toronto office of ddb Needham Worldwide will be taking on some of The Clorox Company of Canada business effective April 15.

Last month Oakland, Calif.-based Clorox shifted its laundry additive and home cleaning brands from Foote Cone & Belding to ddb Needham in the u.s., and the international parts of those assignments will follow suit. ddb is setting up a San Francisco office to service the business and all creative will come from there.

ddb Needham Toronto will be responsible for Canadian media planning and buying for brands such as Pine-Sol cleaner, Tilex mildew stain remover and sos steel wool soap pads.

Young & Rubicam of Toronto, which previously had all the Clorox Canada business, will continue to handle the insecticide business, including Black Flag and Combat brands, as well as non-laundry products such as Brita water filters.

The Clorox realignment eliminates any possible conflicts for y&r Toronto, which picked up all of the Canadian Colgate-Palmolive business in a global consolidation this past December.

The consolidation brought abc detergent, Fleecy fabric softener, Javex bleach and Mennen deodorant to y&r, which already had Colgate brand toothpaste and oral care products.
