Harvey’s splits with SMW, moves to ACLK

Cara Operations Limited has moved the creative assignment for its Harvey’s restaurants from smw Advertising to Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly of Toronto, the agency that has handled creative for Harvey’s sister company Swiss Chalet since 1980.

aclk also had Harvey’s prior to smw getting the business in 1993.

Harrison Young Pesonen & Newell handles media buying for Harvey’s $10-million-plus account and for Swiss Chalet.

Rob Lawrie, president and ceo of smw, says both the agency and Harvey’s had been unhappy with the relationship for about a year.

He says smw presented Harvey’s with its requirements for maintaining the relationship and was prepared for any outcome.

‘We would really have liked to hold onto the business if we could have had it more on our terms,’ says Lawrie.

‘There’s no rancor from our perspective. We’re quite happy a decision has been reached.’
