Kleenex and Cottonelle bathroom tissue brands remain separate in Canada although Kimberly-Clark of Texas is merging the two in the u.s., effective April 1.
Kimberly-Clark purchased Scott Paper, maker of Cottonelle, in December.
Lee Griffiths, chairman of Kimberly-Clark of Canada, says the two Canadian operations will operate separately, while the company awaits approval of the merger.
Advertising for the new u.s. bathroom tissue brand will be handled by Kimberly-Clark agency, Foote Cone & Belding of Chicago. Cottonelle had been with Bozell Worldwide of New York.
In other changes in the business, Kimberly-Clark will use the Kleenex brand on all premium tissue products while the Scott label will be put on value products. The Kleenex name will also be added to other Scott products such as Viva paper towels.
In Canada, the Scott Paper business is with J. Walter Thompson and Bozell Palmer Bonner.
Kimberly-Clark of Canada advertising comes from u.s. agencies, Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis; fcb, Chicago; and Ogilvy & Mather, New York.
