Canadian Pennzoil campaign goes global

Pennzoil has a new international rallying cry: ‘Pennzoil. There are no limits.’

The campaign, created by MacLaren McCann of Toronto, will be seen not only in Canada but around the world in countries such as India, Argentina and the Philippines.

It is currently being tested in the u.s.

The new commercials, in both 30-sec. and 45-sec. versions, feature a giant tennis game between two futuristic gladiators in the Australian outback.

There is virtually no voice-over but the spot ends with the Pennzoil logo and themeline.

Bill Blair, Pennzoil director of sales and marketing, says the spots leave viewers with the impression that with Pennzoil, there are no limits to where they can go or what they can do.

‘It’s not only very contemporary, but well targeted to young drivers.

Pennzoil’s annual advertising season is spring through October.

The new commercial will run in both English and French in Canada, primarily during the Stanley Cup hockey playoffs and other sports programming on cbc, ctv, tsn and rds, as well as during sitcoms such as Seinfeld and Friends.

Magazine advertising begins in May issues of trade publications. Radio spots have also been created although not yet scheduled.
