Vancouver-based A&W Food Services and Burlington, Ont.-based Laidlaw have inked a deal that would see a&w adding 450 restaurants to its stable, provided Laidlaw’s offer to purchase Scott’s Hospitality goes through.
Laidlaw, which operates 29,000 school buses, has made an offer to purchase Scott’s Hospitality, in an effort to acquire the company’s 6,000 vehicle school bus business.
Contingent on the purchase, a&w has agreed to buy from Laidlaw the Scott’s Kentucky Fried Chicken and Travel Centre businesses.
a&w has also contracted with Laidlaw to provide corporate management of the remaining Scott’s food service businesses until buyers can be found.
These properties include 245 Manchu Wok restaurants in Canada and the u.s. and 205 Perfect Pizza locations in the u.k.
a&w is a privately held company which operates 482 a&w hamburger fast food restaurants across Canada.
The company’s agreement with Laidlaw will give it 400 kfc restaurants in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec and 51 Scott’s branded food service restaurants in travel centres on highways in southern and eastern Ontario.
The Vancouver office of BBDO Canada handles advertising for a&w while the kfc business is with Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
