Playdium Entertainment Corporation, in partnership with mca, DreamWorks SKG, and Sega GameWorks, is investing more than $50 million to open 40 entertainment centres in Canada in the next five to seven years.
The first location will open by the end of the year, two will launch in 1997, and the rollout will accelerate in the following years.
The centres, ranging from 12,000 to 40,000 sq. ft., will be a combination of indoor and outdoor venues.
The indoor facilities will be branded Sega, either SegaCity or Sega GameWorks, while the parks with outdoor attractions will be called Playdium.
The indoor components of those parks will have the Sega name, for example, SegaCity at the Playdium.
Interactive game technology, as well as sport and adventure simulators – including attractions designed by Sega GameWorks – will be housed at the centres along with food, beverage and retail components.
