Jim Anderson, former chairman of McKim Baker Lovick/BBDO, died of a heart attack on May 29 at the age of 60.
For 30 years, Anderson’s name was synonymous with McKim Advertising.
In 1992, with the merging of McKim Advertising and Baker Lovick/BBDO, Anderson was named chairman and chief executive officer of Canada’s largest agency now known as BBDO Canada.
He passed the torch to Peter Stringham in February 1993, but remained as chairman and advisor to the agency until retiring early in 1994.
Anderson spent five years in marketing at the Campbell Soup Company in Toronto before joining McKim Advertising in 1964.
His first assignment included management of accounts such as General Foods, S.C. Johnson & Son, and cibc.
Anderson’s move up the agency ladder was steady; he was appointed vice-president and group account supervisor in 1968, Toronto manager in 1973, and president in January 1979, later adding chief executive officer to his title.
