Bell Mobility has introduced a two-in-one phone called Converto that works as both a cellular and traditional cordless phone.
The new product is expected to be on the market in Ontario and Quebec by mid-September.
Advertising from Cossette Communication-Marketing of Toronto will begin the end of September and will target small and home offices with a newspaper and magazine campaign.
When Converto’s base station is plugged into a Bell phone jack, it operates as a regular cordless phone, although its range – at around 1,000 feet – is about three times greater.
Beyond that distance, it automatically kicks into cellular mode.
Two phone numbers are needed for the phone – a Bell home or business number and a Bell Mobility cellular number.
While incoming cellular calls will automatically transfer to the phone while it is in regular mode, to reverse the action calls would have to be forwarded from a home or business number to the cellular number using Bell’s Call Forwarding service.
Converto may be leased for about $15.95 a month or purchased for around $499 to $599.
A Bell Mobility airtime package is extra. There is also a $4 per month charge for the cellular-cordless capability.
