Letter: Don’t jibe

I appreciate the attempt at a special report on the Lower Mainland of b.c. in the August 5 issue of Strategy; it is unfortunate that the two pieces on facing pages 30 and 31 (‘Vancouver consumers an elusive media target’ by Maureen Beston of BBDO Vancouver and ‘An insider’s guide to media in the Lower Mainland’ by Tim Monaghan of Cossette Communication-Marketing), didn’t jibe very well.

My point: Beston tells us that Lower Mainland readers of community newspapers poll 30% higher than Toronto and Montreal. Interesting.

Monaghan proceeds to ignore this community newspaper factor in his ‘insider’s guide to media’ charts. Not good!

He then proceeds to provide bbm data while excluding the radio with the best numbers, namely cbc am.

I’m sure the intent was there to provide your readers with the information to lead to a decision, but it reminds me of the Eastern agent for Color Your World who, upon having received my pitch to purchase lineage in the Greater Victoria/Vancouver Island markets said, ‘We’ve got it covered with The Vancouver Sun!’

East may well meet Westone day.

I am no longer in print but do enjoy your publication relative to our trade show business.
