Stevenson may leave FCB

Cotton Stevenson is said to be leaving the post of vp executive creative director of FCB Canada amid rumours that the agency is shopping around for a small Toronto agency.

David Haan, fcb president and ceo, says Stevenson is looking at some options but nothing is official yet.

He says Stevenson, who is originally from the u.s., has been thinking of moving back but hasn’t yet made a decision.

Regarding rumours that fcb wants to buy a Toronto shop, Haan says even if there were some agencies that wanted to be bought, fcb’s holding company True North Communications seems to be tied up with bigger deals right now.

True North is reported to be acquiring Bozell Jacobs Kenyon & Eckhardt agency network and perhaps Bates Worldwide.

Both have Canadian offices.

Haan says at this point he only knows what he has read in the u.s. press but says it’s not surprising because in the past few years True North has acquired a number of smaller agency groups and creative agencies, including Toronto’s Harrod & Mirlin, and it makes sense for the holding company to operate more than one large agency network.
