Optimum adds veteran to team

Optimum Public Relations has added another telecommunications veteran to the staff of the Washington, d.c.-area office that it opened last month.

New Account Supervisor Darian Germain was previously with a multinational telecommunications consortium in the u.s.

Germain joins Janis Langley, vice-president and general manager.

Optimum acts as the communications arm for international long-distance service provider Teleglobe, which has outsourced all its communications to the firm.

Because of this relationship, Jeff Lake, vice-president and general manager of Optimum Toronto, says when Montreal-based Teleglobe moved into the u.s., the pr firm felt the client’s needs would be best served by opening a u.s. office there itself.

Lake says there is a lot of opportunity for Optimum to grow in the u.s. because there is a tremendous amount of business going on between the two countries.

The Washington location, he says, is ideal because major Canadian companies wanting to do business in the u.s. must, at some point, have contact with Washington, either for regulatory or lobbying reasons.
