Doner plans expansion: Staffing up Toronto, Montreal operations in light of Mazda win

Doner Schur Peppler of Toronto is now known as Doner Canada and the company has plans to change more than just its name.

Thanks to the win of the North American Mazda business, estimated at nearly $20 million in Canada, the agency is staffing up its Toronto and Montreal operations and opening offices in other cities.

The first new full-service office is scheduled to open in Vancouver in the first quarter of 1998.

Concurrent with this announcement, Adrian Taylor was named agency president. Taylor joined Doner Schur Peppler as managing director in 1992.

Taylor began his career with Benton & Bowles in London, England and was appointed director of business development at J. Walter Thompson in Toronto prior to moving to Doner.

He replaces Dan Peppler, ceo, whom Taylor says was fired from his post.

Peppler and Taylor had been working on a deal to buy dsp back from W.B. Doner of Southfield, Mich., the u.s. network that bought 100% of Schur Peppler and Associates.

The agency was founded in 1986 by: Jeff Schur, president when he left in 1992; Peppler, the creative director; and Robert Troutbeck, who is still executive vice-president and national media director of Doner Canada.

In addition to Mazda Canada, the agency’s clients include Canadian Tire Corporation, Purolator Courier, Grand & Toy, Hunt-Wesson, Hershey Canada, Remy Martin, Leon’s, and Fuji PhotoFilm.
