Thomas Cook books Punch as agency of record

The travel giant's Canadian office will work with the Toronto agency on advertising, PR, promotions and event management. Plans for the company's media planning and buying services are still under negotiation.

 

One of the country’s biggest travel companies, Thomas Cook Canada, has tapped Punch Canada as its AOR.

Under the new agreement, Toronto-based Punch will work with the in-house marketing team on advertising, public relations, promotions and event management for Thomas Cook Canada brands such as Sunquest, AlbaTours, Fun Sun Vacations, BelAir Travel and Last Minute Club, as well as wholesale and retail divisions, Sunquest Meetings + Incentives and the recently launched Thomas Cook Financial Services.

‘We were immediately drawn to the energy and creative thinking that Punch demonstrated in the selection process,’ Thomas Cook’s senior director of marketing, Paul Larcher, said in a statement. ‘The agency has strong travel credentials, and they made the connection between creative ideas and strategic thinking that we were looking for.’

Punch Canada president Stewart MacPhee says his agency relishes the opportunity to implement its integrated communications approach with the globally recognized leisure and travel group.

‘It’s an amazing opportunity for us,’ MacPhee says. ‘It’s a fabulous brand, and we’ve got a wealth of category experience, so we’re anxious to put our resources to work. It should be a lot of fun, as they’ve a great team over there.’

Punch Canada clients include The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Emirates Airline and Moosehead Breweries.

MacPhee adds that media planning and buying for Thomas Cook Canada is still under discussion.
