Ian MacKellar was announced today as new CD of Bensimon Byrne, only a few short weeks after his departure from BBDO. Known for his work on Diet Pepsi’s “Forever Young” campaign, the award-winning CD recently masterminded Tropicana Orange Juice’s “Brighter Mornings for Brighter Days,” which saw an artificial sun grace the sky during Inuvik’s 24-hour darkness.
‘Joining Bensimon Byrne gives me the unique opportunity to work with the likes of both Jack Bensimon and David Rosenberg – two people for whom I have always had a great deal of respect,” MacKellar told strategy. “It also gives me the chance to lead, foster and promote exceptional creative in a more nimble, more entrepreneurial and encouraging environment.’
Meanwhile, Rosenberg, an agency partner and former CD, will become chief creative officer, filling the role left vacant by Peter Byrne’s 2008 retirement. Rosenberg had held the CD position for 10 years, spearheading Molson’s “I AM Canadian” campaign, as well as prominent work for Scotiabank, Hyundai Canada, Loblaws and the CFL.
Rosenberg says of the staffing change, “Ian is simply a brilliant idea guy. He’s going to help immensely with our product as we continue to pursue our commitment of being an industry leader in creative.”
“As for me, I’m looking forward to bringing a strong creative voice to the evolution of our company from my chair as partner,” he says. “I’ll represent the agency publicly within the broader industry and continue to lead in the shaping of our culture and values.’
