Human Equation sets up shop in Toronto

The Quebec agency's third office aims to better serve clients in the Ontario city.

Digital and interactive-focused agency Human Equation, known as Equation Humaine in its home province of Quebec, has opened its doors in Toronto to better serve its clients based in the city and throughout the province.

Opening earlier this month, this is the third office for the agency, which opened a branch in Amsterdam last summer in addition to its home base in Montreal.

Human Equation, which serves clients across Europe and Canada, was looking to open a permanent space in Toronto where some of its clients are based, including OMAC, Dynamic Outdoors and TFO.

The office will be led by Jessica Fowler, who has been hired by the agency as director of GTA and Ontario. Fowler was previously a client development consultant for eastern Ontario at FindLaw, Thomson Reuters’ online marketing platform for legal services. She has also been an account executive with CNW Group and VP of sales and business development at ProEdge Media.

“This is a long time coming,” Fowler says of the new office. “With Human Equation being all over Europe and having strong partnerships in Montreal, it’s a logical step.”

In September, Human Equation acquired Quebec interactive and mobile agency Piranha, at which time the agency first mentioned that Toronto could be a potential area of expansion for the agency. Shortly before the expansion into Europe, Human Equation acquired Imagine-id, and appointed that agency’s founder Marc-Andre Garand as its new CEO.

“With each agency that Human Equation has acquired and welcomed into its doors, it’s brought its own expertise,” Fowler says. “We have very strong, leading-edge technical expertise, so that’s one of the things I think our agency does extremely well, but there’s also very strong creative and a really good corporate structure.”

Fowler is the first member of the team in Toronto, working with support from Montreal. She says the office is looking to grow organically with work from existing clients and new clients, from national accounts to small- and medium-sized businesses. Fowler adds that her own background in professional services will be a focus for the agency and will help it find a niche in the market.

So far this year, Human Equation has also promoted Nathalie McGowan to VP of client services and hired Marc Campeau as VP of digital production.
