A hockey player who’s a stand-up comic, a model, philanthropist, and now, a fashion designer at the ripe age of 27? Either P.K. Subban has the power to make time stand still, or he never (and we mean never) gets any sleep.
The latest title in the athlete’s resume is fashion expert, thanks to a partnership with RW & Co, a Reitmans-owned clothier that used his design chops to create a #PKApproved collection of menswear for the fall. Apparently Subban has always wanted to design his own collection, and it just so happened that the brand was particularly inspired by the busy bee, jumping at the chance to make the collection happen within six months of them coming together (Subban, as well as his family, began appearing in campaigns for the retailer last fall, and again this winter).
“P.K. Subban is exemplary for being strong, ambitious and confident,” said Kathy Tsolakos, VP of marketing and visual presentation for RW & Co., in a release. “He inspired us last year to offer a new athletic fit to young hockey players and athletes of all types, to better suit them up, so they have more room to move. By showcasing his new designer label, we hope to show all our customers that they too can be at the top of their style game, like him.”
The final step of the partnership and line launch — a photo shoot in a Toronto studio with famed fashion photog Chris Nicholls, and featuring the athlete’s brothers Jordan and Malcolm Subban — was documented by the retailer in a behind-the-scenes spot showing the collection of six suits, which are being sold online and in 22 select stores. But don’t fret if you miss the chance to get your hands on some “Subbuits” (as we’ve dubbed them) – a selection of shirts and accessories will be available to purchase in 45 stores across the country.
