The Brick names new president

The Brick has named its new president, turning to longtime executive Dave Freeman to lead the brand’s growth into the future.

Freeman, who takes on the new position Nov. 1, first joined the company in 1980 as part of its distribution team. Most recently, he was The Brick’s VP of operations.

“[Freeman] has been a valuable member of the Brick organization for over 35 years,” said Edward Leon, president and CEO of parent company Leon’s, in a press release. “We are confident that his leadership and success in several senior roles have prepared him to lead The Brick into many years of continued growth and profitability.”

In addition to over 200 The Brick locations, the company also operates the United Furniture Warehouse, Midnorthern Appliance, First Oceans and TransGlobal brands. In 2012, The Brick – Canada’s largest retailer of furniture and appliances by volume at the time – was purchased by rival Leon’s in a $700 million deal.

Freeman takes over the position of president from Jim Caldwell, who left the company in June to join the new leadership team at Lowe’s Canada as EVP of the company’s big box unit.
