Earlier this spring, an iceberg appeared off the coast of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland & Labrador that quickly got people’s attention – and a nickname, the “Dickie Berg” – for its phallic shape.
While commenters in the news and on the internet were amused, several also brought up a troubling reality: the iceberg had likely taken its shape from ice melting caused by climate change.
Canadian sex toy manufacturer DeeVa decided to seize on the opportunity to use what it knows best and bring more attention to the issue of melting icebergs.
Working with agency Zula Alpha Kilo, DeeVa created a prototype for a novelty dildo shaped exactly like the “Dickie Berg.” It is made of eco-friendly soft phthalate-free materials, so it is better for the environment, and all profits will be given to non-profits fighting climate change through Extinction Rebellion.
“There have been many sensational and humorous headlines surrounding this iceberg,” said Tom Ashcroft, president of DeeVa Toys. “We created ‘The Dickie Berg’ to bring attention to this in a lighthearted way.”
DeeVa is currently running an IndieGoGo campaign to fund manufacturing of the toy, which currently has 12 backers.
