Telus illuminates Lunar New Year by shining light on a traditional Red Packet

Each year, Telus celebrates Lunar New Year with the Asian community by creating special Red Packets designed to reflect the Chinese zodiac of the coming year. This year welcomes the Year of the Dragon, and to commemorate the event, Telus is working with local Vancouver artist Paige Jung to design the Red Packet for 2024.

This is a continuation of Telus’ ongoing commitment to fostering cultural connections, supporting local talent, and championing diversity, equality and inclusion.

Heather Rowe, director of multicultural and newcomer marketing at Telus, emphasizes the significance of celebrating cultural moments. “In the spirit of ‘We Give Where We Live,’ Telus recognizes the importance of embracing diversity. This collaboration not only adds vibrancy to Lunar New Year festivities but also provides a prominent platform for local artists like Paige to showcase their work on a broader stage.”

This collaboration with the Chinese Canadian artist marks a first for Telus. Through her unique perspective, the design aims to resonate profoundly with the Asian community as well as underscore Telus’s commitment to a future where every voice has a platform and every community can connect and thrive.

Paige Jung shares her excitement, “Creating art that merges tradition with contemporary expression is a privilege. Telus’s commitment to supporting local artists allows for a beautiful intersection of culture and creativity.”

Her illustration depicts a dynamic scene of a soaring dragon chasing a lantern adorned with a Chinese Feichun, symbolizing fortune and success. Infused with the lively Telus brand colours, this new interpretation honors traditions while making room for something new. Much like how the multicultural community celebrates their culture in Canada.

Nachiket Sant, vice president of Response Advertising, Telus’s multicultural marketing agency of record adds, “Paige Jung’s artistic flair injects a contemporary touch into traditional red packets, symbols of good fortune and prosperity. This builds on the triumph of our previous campaigns and we’re delighted to introduce this special Lunar New Year collaboration.”
