Vancouver City Savings Credit Union has started an agency review for its $2.2 million account and expects to make a final decision by mid-September.
VanCity has not reviewed its business in more than 18 years.
The agency it was using in the early ’70s, Embryo Communications, was bought by Grey Canada during the ’80s and has handled the business ever since.
Grey is taking part in the review.
A shortlist is expected mid-month.
George Scott, vice-president of marketing and planning, says he was considering a review at the same time that VanCity instituted a mandatory program of reviewing contracts every three years.
He says VanCity is looking for an agency that will help it move more into direct response advertising and new media.
He expects BBDO Vancouver, the agency for VanCity’s virtual bank subsidiary Citizens Bank of Canada, will want to pitch for the account but it hasn’t been decided if both businesses should be with one agency.
