Combined ads for IBM and Lotus

ibm’s newest spot in its ‘Solutions For A Small Planet’ corporate tv campaign ties ibm to Lotus Development, the computer software company it recently purchased.

Although advertising from each company will occasionally mention the other’s products, IBM Canada spokesperson Mike Quinn says there are no plans to consolidate Lotus’ advertising with ibm’s global agency, Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide.

Lotus’ Canadian agency is Doner Schur Peppler of Toronto; in the u.s., it uses Hill Holliday Connors Cosmopulos of Boston.

Quinn says the latest subtitled commercial, which features Buddhist monks, was done to recognize that the two companies have merged and that ibm has adopted the Lotus name as its brand name for pc application and workgroup software.

Lotus Notes is now being utilized as ibm’s workgroup client and mail, messaging and groupware server platform and Lotus SmartSuite is the ibm desktop suite.
