Duncan Bruce has been named creative director of Chiat/Day, returning to the agency he left two years ago to found Bruce & Myers Creative Directions with Brad Myers.
Bruce, an art director by trade, started his career at Saatchi & Saatchi and then spent four years at DDB Needham as associate creative director and group head on Volkswagen Canada.
Bruce says, ‘After having my own company, there’s no other agency I’d rather work for than Chiat/Day. It’s a perfect move.
‘Chiat/Day puts people in an environment to do their best work and it’s my job to keep the environment alive.
‘Agency life is quite different and isolated as a creative person, until you get out to start your own business and have monetary and business responsibilities as well.
‘I think because of that experience I bring more to the table.’
Peter McHugh who joined the agency as creative director from the New York office two years ago, is still with the agency but his role has not yet been decided.
In other news at Chiat, Brad Monk has joined the agency as a senior writer. Monk comes from Henderson Advertising of South Carolina, where he has been associate creative director since September 1994.
Before that, he was senior writer with J. Walter Thompson, Toronto.
Frank Lepre, most recently an art director at the Toronto office of Taxi, has also been added to the team.
Dave Desrochers recently left his post of senior vice-president finance at Doner Schur Peppler to become the agency’s director of finance and administration.
Steve Hancock, managing director of Chiat, says more hiring will take place at the agency over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, Marty Myers and son Brad, two of the principals of bam, are buying out Duncan Bruce and father Dennis Bruce.
Dennis Bruce is setting up a creative planning company, which will offer services that are a modification of the British account planning system, and he will continue working for BAM and other clients.
BAM expects to soon announce the hiring of a new senior art director.
