Ross Roy closes

Ian Roberts Ross Roy closed its doors in December after losing two major accounts in one month.

The Toronto agency, which gave up Kmart Canada and Fuji Photo Film Canada, worth about $12 million in annual billings, put itself in the hands of a trustee.

Thirty staff members were put out of work.

Ross Roy Communications of Bloomfield, Mich. has been left without a Toronto office, and now has its Windsor, Ont. agency, which services Chrysler Canada, as its sole Canadian presence.

Last February, Ross Roy closed its Toronto office and signed a non-equity affiliation agreement with Ian Roberts Advertising, which took over its Kmart Canada account.

Peter Mills, Ross Roy chief executive officer, says, with the loss of Kmart, there is no immediate need for the agency to open another Toronto shop. PS
