Hore takes on consultant role

Marlene Hore is looking forward to the next chapter in her life with ‘one part hope, nine parts fear.’

The former vice-chairman and national creative director at J. Walter Thompson Canada is on her own for the first time as a consultant.

Hore, who resigned effective June 1, also gave up her seat on the Canadian and the JWT Worldwide board of directors.

At jwt, her duties as department head have been assumed by Derek Chapman, vice-president, creative director.

Hore says she has already been offered work, but wants to finish some personal writing projects started earlier this year.

She has been writing a screenplay for a black comedy since January and is also collaborating on a musical with two other people.

Hore started work as a teacher and began her creative career writing radio and tv copy for cfcf in Montreal, later taking her first agency job with Vickers & Benson, Montreal.

However, she has spent a large part of her working life at jwt.

She joined the Montreal office more than 22 years ago and was named national creative director in 1983.

Looking back at 25 years in the agency business, Hore says:

‘I’ve been really lucky. I can say, without equivocation, I have worked with some of the best people in the business on the agency side.

‘And, some of the most exceptional clients who believed in me and gave me the most incredible opportunity and scope, such as Pepsi-Cola, Kraft, Red Rose Tea, which were the first accounts I ever worked on when I came to jwt.’

‘I’d like to think I contributed to the advertising business in Canada in a positive way, and that my passion and love for advertising will continue to be needed in one way, shape or form.’
