McKim veteran opens agency

The Brainstorm Group, a new Toronto agency, is the brainchild of McKim veteran Ron Telpner, who has brought a group of industry experts together to allow clients to work directly with top-level talent.

Telpner, who joined McKim in Winnipeg in 1978, left earlier this year his post of executive vice-president diversified agency services at McKim Baker Lovick/ BBDO, responsible for VRH Communications, Comcore Direct, Spectrum Public Relations and McKim Communications.

He remains chairman and majority shareholder of McKim Communications of Winnipeg, which primarily handles government business.

Working with Telpner at Brainstorm is the award-winning Vancouver creative group Wasserman, Cozens & Dundon; Dennis McKnight of Winnipeg, marketer and future trends expert; and, in Toronto, Bob Gardner, creative director and Megan Paul, director of client services.

Strategic research and planning will be handled by Marion Plunkett, president of Plunkett Communications and veteran of 20 years with Ogilvy & Mather.

Public relations requirements will be filled by Jane MacGillivray, former senior consultant with Spectrum Public Relations and now president of her own company.

Brainstorm’s first client is Western Glove Works, the distributor of Calvin Klein, Wrangler and Silver brand bluejeans.

A Murad and poster campaign for Calvin Klein gets under way mid-June. PS
