Publicite-Club touts advertising’s `artists’

The publicite-Club de Montreal has declared May 6-13 Advertising Week, the first for the 34-year old organization.

The theme of the week-long festivities, in French titled Semaine de la Pub, is advertising’s ‘artists’ – the actors, singers, musicians and directors who contribute to Quebec’s $2.6-billion advertising industry.

The week-long event is geared to industry professionals and the general public.

During the week, an ‘Advertising and Politics’ seminar will be held, and the public will be invited to a screening of Le tour du monde en 80 pubs, (Around the world in 80 ads.)

The film is comprised of entries submitted for the international ‘Fous de la Pub’ (‘Crazy about ads’) contest broadcast on Radio Quebec over the past year.

Another scheduled event is the People’s Choice awards, which allows the public to vote for its favorite advertising in five categories: tv, radio, billboards, print and preferred actor.

Five entries in each category have been pre-selected by a Publicite-Club committee.

A ballot will be printed in the daily newspaper, La Presse, with other media support coming from Info Presse, Mediacom, radio stations ckac-am and cite-fm, and Radio Quebec tv.

The results will be revealed May 13 at a party preceding the 34th Concours du Publicite-Club de Montreal, the annual general meeting at which gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented for the best in Quebec francophone advertising.

More than 200 campaigns and 600 pieces have been submitted for this year’s advertising and promotion categories.

The winner of the third annual new generation competition, this year involving six teams of university students, will also be announced during the evening. PS
