Schick sponsors Movember

Schick Canada generally tries to inspire men to shave daily, but for the sake of a good cause, the razor and shave gel company is asking men to grow moustaches for the month of November.

Schick is one of the major sponsors of Movember, a month-long effort by men to grow moustaches to raise money for Prostate Cancer Canada.

As part of their promotional efforts during Movember, Schick has set up Schick MoPic, a website where people can upload photos of themselves and try out different styles of moustaches. Users are encouraged to share those photos through Facebook, Twitter and email.

The company is also running a bumper during NBA games on TSN and Raptors TV to push people to the website. A sampling tour at universities across Ontario to show off its products and get people involved in Movember will also be executed through the month.

Schick has been a sponsor of Movember in Australia, where it all began, and in Europe. This is the company’s first year sponsoring the Canadian version. As well as raising money and awareness, the hope is to start conversations among men, says Josh Gardner, brand manager, Schick Canada.

‘They’re conversations that probably would not have been had otherwise,’ he says. ‘Now guys are talking about it. Men don’t really openly talk about health a lot, but if you’re not a moustache-wearer normally, it’ll be a bit of a game-changer around the office and people will definitely ask what’s going on with your facial hair.’

Canadian Club and Mercedes-Benz are also taking part in Movember as major partners, through promotional campaigns, collaborative merchandise and cash contributions.

More than 200 companies and organizations have already signed up to take part this year. For more information on Movember, visit the website.
