– Hydro-Quebec has picked bos of Montreal to handle the creative portion of its $6-million assignment, which had been with bcp for the previous four years. The public utility has rehired Strategem as its media buying agency.

– ICI Paints has announced a global consolidation with New York-based bbdo as its worldwide agency for Dulux and Glidden, an assignment worth US$46.5 million. bbdo in Toronto will take over the $1.5-million Canadian business now handled by Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising.

– Sony Canada has given AES Company of Toronto accounts for two divisions: broadcast and professional group and computer and peripheral products. United Business Communications formerly had the job.

– Pacific National Exhibition has retained incumbent Palmer Jarvis of Vancouver for its $1-million account after a review of four short-listed agencies.

– The Canadian Paralympic Committee has announced that MacLaren McCann of Toronto will be handling its advertising and communications needs for the Tenth Paralympic Games for disabled athletes to be held in Atlanta this August.

– Consumers Gas has picked Gee Jeffery & Partners of Toronto for the retail portion of its $4 million account. A media buying agency has not yet been chosen.

– International Hospitality of Toronto has named The Gingko Group to handle advertising for its Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurants. Although the company operates 18 of the restaurants in Canada, Gingko will focus on the 14 Ontario locations with a radio and newspaper campaign.

– Quebec microbrewery Brasal has awarded its media buying account to Strategem of Montreal. The duties were previously handled in-house.

– Department of Justice – Canada has awarded its account to Consortium LaFleur, a group consisting of Groupaction Marketing and Communication Jean LaFleur of Montreal, Compass Communications of Halifax and Quay Strategies of Vancouver.

– Liverton Hotels International has chosen TBWA Chiat/Day of Toronto to handle its advertising. Liverton owns and operates the Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto and Vancouver.
