Mitch Marner laces up once again for SkipTheDishes

SkipTheDishes is getting another assist from brand ambassador Mitch Marner with the launch of a new virtual restaurant, “Mitch’s Dishes,” and supporting campaign.

With Marner’s Toronto Maple Leafs all but assured to make the NHL playoffs – and the playoffs drawing near – the food delivery service is launching its new virtual restaurant in partnership with the star right winger, who debuted as an ambassador for its brand last October. This time, the brand is keeping the same tongue-in-cheek tone to its campaign, though it is ditching the dad joke.

It’s a natural partnership for the brand, says Cheryl Radisa, VP of marketing at Skip. After all, “who knows more about game-day food rituals than Mitch Marner himself?”

The campaign, which launched alongside the restaurant on Thursday, is running across social, promoted on both Marner and SkipTheDishes’ social media accounts. It features a variety of spots, shot in the style of press conferences, with Marner fielding questions about the virtual restaurant and its various menu items.

The virtual restaurant pop-up will be available exclusively through the Skip app in 50 locations across Ontario for a limited time – including Toronto, Kingston, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Kitchener, Niagara, London and more. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Marner Assist Foundation’s #MakeAnAssist initiative, which combats food insecurity across Canada.

The menu has been curated by Chopped Canada winner and chef Matt Rosen, and features items including the “crispy chicken wraparound” sandwich and “hat trick” appetizer platter. Just don’t expect anything with cilantro.

“It’s important to gear up before every game with the right fuel,” Marner says of the partnership. “This year, we wanted to kick things up a notch with a restaurant of menu items entirely approved by me – perfect for fans of the game or even just fans of delicious, savoury meals.”

Skip’s internal team, Skip Studios, produced the spots alongside The Deli, with Wasserman handling the athlete partnership.
