Cannes Digest: Canada brings in record haul of Lions

As the 2024 Cannes Lions festival draws closer to an end, Canadian agencies can reflect upon a strong, record-setting year for the country.

Canadian marketing work has already won 55 Lions this year, a new record for the country. The bulk of the awards have been picked up by Rethink with 22 Lions in total, nearly half of Canada’s awards share. But other agencies that have been highly awarded out of Canada this week also include Klick Health with six Lions, Dentsu with five and FCB with four.

Wednesday was an especially fruitful day for Rethink, as its creative for Kraft Heinz brought in three Gold Lions across three categories. Its “Heinz Ketchup & Seemingly Ranch” campaign struck gold in Social & Influencer and Direct, while its “Heinz Fraud” campaign picked up a Gold win in PR. Canada’s golden haul was rounded out on Wednesday with a Gold in the Media category for Dentsu’s “Inflation Cookbook” campaign for SkipTheDishes.

Canada was launched to its record high of 55 Lions on Thursday, with the announcement of 12 more awards (six Silver and six Bronze) given out to Rethink, Dentsu Creative and Ogilvy.

Cannes will unveil more Gold and Grand Prix winners later on Thursday at 3:30 pm ET.
