BBDO’s Tolpin heads south: Creet, McLaughlin named co-creative directors

Larry Tolpin has left his post as chief creative officer of BBDO Canada to take on a dual role for BBDO Worldwide in the u.s. – regional creative chairman, and president and chief creative officer of BBDO South, Atlanta.

As regional creative chairman, Tolpin is responsible for BBDO offices in Atlanta, Chicago and Minneapolis, with billings of more than us$500 million.

BBDO Canada’s creative departments will now operate more autonomously and will not be reporting to one national creative director.

One of Canada’s top creative teams, Stephen Creet and Michael McLaughlin – and Tolpin’s first hires as national creative director – will take over as co-creative directors of BBDO Toronto.

Tolpin joined BBDO Vancouver (then Baker Lovick/BBDO) as creative director in 1989; he moved to Toronto to oversee the agency’s national creative product in October 1992.

Prior to joining the agency, he held top creative positions in California with Walt Disney and Touchstone Pictures, as well as with Foote Cone & Belding.

Earlier, he had senior creative roles at bbdo, Wells Rich Greene and Ogilvy & Mather.

In other management changes at BBDO Canada, Mike Fyshe, executive vice-president and managing director on the Chrysler Canada business, has been promoted to president and Chief Operating Officer of BBDO Retail.

Barrett Book, previously vice-president, group account director on Molson and Miller, will be reporting to Fyshe as senior vice-president, group account director. He has added Bauer and tsn to his list of responsibilities.

Gary King, who was account director on the Chrysler Dealer business, has been promoted to senior vice-president, group account director. In his new role, he will continue on the Chrysler Dealer account and will share the Chrysler brand assignment with senior vice-president, group account director, Jack Daley.
