Cannes sees record entries for 2014

The Cannes Lions have received a record number of entries for the 2014 edition of its awards, with 37,400 coming in from 97 countries and 17 categories, including the new Product Design field, which saw 194 submissions.

That number bests last year’s entries, which sat at a total of 35,765. Canada comes in eight overall in terms of the number of entries, with 995 submissions, down from 1,106 last year.

Outdoor was the category with the most submissions this year, with 5,660. PR Lions submissions were up 43% to land at 1,850. Cyber jumped 39% in number of entries, with 3,660 submissions. Branded Content & Entertainment also saw a big leap this year, going up 22% with 1,178 entries in the category for 2014. Mobile entries were up 12%, Design entries jumped 11% and Promo & Activation submissions moved up 9%.

Some more traditional categories saw dips this year, with Press dropping 12%, Film submissions dipping 9% and Radio going down 7%.

There were a total of 3,127 Media entries to the competition this year, up from 3,031 in 2013. There were 79 entries from Canada in the category.
