In Brief: 123w wins creative duties for bubble tea brand Chatime

Chatime picks 123w to support Canadian expansion

Global bubble tea leader Chatime has tapped Canadian agency 123w to lead its creative strategy as it continues to expand across the country.

Currently, the brand has 1,500 store locations globally, with 95 in Canada, the first of which opened in 2011. Through the partnership with 123w, the company is looking to develop a new brand platform, which will encompass a new tagline, visual language and campaign, in order to build awareness and – eventually – conversion.

“As the category gets more competitive with Canadians looking for options outside of coffee, this is the perfect time for Kevito Group to build the Chatime brand and get more Canadians to fall in love with bubble tea,” says Roxanne Tsui, VP of customer experience, people & culture, at Chatime.

The first work resulting from the partnership is expected to launch in mid-2024.

The Canadian Marketing Association names vice chair and board member

The CMA has announced the appointment of Alan Depencier, CMO for personal and commercial banking and insurance at RBC, as vice chair of its board. Previous vice chair Kerri Dawson took over as chair of the board last year. Depencier has been a director on the CMA’s board since 2019.

Joining the organization’s board of directors this year is Jacquie Ryan, CEO of the Canadian Olympic Foundation and chief brand and commercial officer of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

“Both are seasoned marketing executives and experienced directors who have a long history of involvement with the CMA,” Dawson says.

Matte Public Relations adds two clients

Matte PR has added two new clients to its roster: Toronto-based clothing and accessories brand OkayOk, as well as custom floor and wall coverings company Creative Matters.

For OkayOk, Matte will lead media and influencer relations and social media strategy. For Creative Matters, the agency will handle media relations, as well as social media and website content creation.

Matte PR has also re-signed existing clients, Ahiri, Ladurée Canada and Red Barrinuevo of Redesign4More. The firm will continue executing strategy media relations campaigns for all three clients.
