David Rosenberg retires from Bensimon Byrne

Longtime Bensimon Byrne partner and CCO, David Rosenberg, is bidding adieu to the agency.

For more than 24 years, “Rosie” has been a “creative maestro and cultural catalyst,” the shop said in a social post.

He began his career in 1987 as an in-house copywriter for the defunct Woolco Woolworth department store, before moving on to Geoffrey B. Roche & Partners, where he honed his advertising writing chops and gained his creative reputation.

An executive creative director at 32, he started as a CD at Bensimon Byrne in 2000. He almost immediately pitched and won Scotiabank Retail Banking. Rosenberg then became an owner and partner in 2006.

Rosenberg has amassed more than 300 national and international awards for a diverse range of clients, including IKEA, McDonald’s, Scotiabank, Nike and the Liberal Party of Canada.

At a Cannes keynote address in 2016, he shared the success story of Justin Trudeau’s historic 2015 federal election win, in which the Liberal Party added the largest ever parliamentary seat increase, thanks in part to “risk-taking ads.”

In 2017, Rosenberg co-created Air Quotes Media, a political media and podcast company that produces The Herle Burly, Curse of Politics and Hotel Pacifico.

As part of a new leadership structure in 2021, Rosenberg was named to Tadiem’s board of directors. Tadiem is the parent company that owns Bensimon Byrne, OneMethod and Narrative.

Rosenberg also oversaw recent brand work for Woodbine Racetrack’s The King’s Plate, and Destination Toronto.

He was also responsible for a “City Friends with Benefits” campaign, which saw Ottawa Tourism, Tourisme Montréal and Destination Toronto working collectively to promote travel between the three cities.
