Forget January, apparently September is the time for resolutions when it comes to meal planning, according to a new survey.
The poll from Rabba Fine Foods was done through Leger’s online panel in August and asked roughly 1,000 Ontarians about their meal planning habits. A majority (72%) of parents with kids under 18 are likely to plan their meals for the week before going shopping (versus 53% of consumers without kids).
At 65%, younger Canadians (between 18 and 34) are also more likely to plan weekly meals, according to the survey. That compares with 53% of those 55 to 64 and 47% of those over 65.
Sixty percent said they often or always plan ahead before shopping for groceries, but the same percentage said they also pop into the grocery store for same-day meal ingredients at least once a week (35% once per week and 24% more than once a week). About a third (30%) said they never plan weekly meals before shopping.
Unsurprisingly, 72% of parents say they become more organized about their shopping plans when the new school year rolls around, versus 37% of those who don’t have kids at home.
