Yahoo Canada has hired Turbulence Communications for its advertising business, which generates an annual media spend of about $400,000. Yahoo’s global agency is Black Rocket of San Francisco.

Perrier Group of Concord, Ont. has also chosen Turbulence to handle advertising for beverage brands Snapple and San Pellegrino.

Sony of Canada has completed its review, handing MacLaren McCann its $7.5-million consumer electronics and computer group creative assignments. Ambrose Carr Linton Carroll, Ranscombe & Co. and Zig were also in the running. Media planning and buying remains with Due North Communications.

New Brunswick’s Department of Economic Development, Tourism & Culture has chosen M5 Marketing of Moncton, N.B., the incumbent on the business, as AOR for its regional English-language tourism account.

Mexx Canada, an international clothing company, has awarded its advertising and public relations assignments to Publicis-BCP of Montreal.

The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec has picked Amalgame-Cargo of Quebec City for its $3-million account, following a review that also included Cossette Communication-Marketing, the incumbent, and Marketel.

Famous Players has named Encore Encore Strategic Marketing as its creative agency of record. Encore beat out The Crichton Kim-Kirkland Company for the account, the size of which wasn’t disclosed.
