The Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity has named its jury presidents, and there will be a familiar face on the Direct Lions panel.
Judy John, CEO and CCO at Leo Burnett in Toronto will lead the Direct jury. She’s the first female Canadian creative to sit atop a panel as president, according to a release. In 2009, Taxi CCO Paul Lavoie was named a jury president.
It’s been a banner year for John, who has picked up multiple awards in recent months for Always’ “Like a Girl,” led her agency to claim the strategy Agency of the Year honour in November, and ranked number one on our annual Creative Report Card list back at the beginning of the year.
She’ll be joined by the likes of Tor Myhren, president and worldwide CCO at Grey leading the Film jury; Nick Emery, global CEO of Mindshare Worldwide on the Media jury; Matt Eastwood, worldwide CCO of JWT on the Promo and Activation jury; and David Lubars, CCO at BBDO Worldwide on the Branded Content and Entertainment jury.
In all, five women sit as jury president (up from four in 2014 and two in 2013), outnumbered by the 10 men leading the panels. In the past, Cannes Lions CEO Philip Thomas, made the case for having more women on the jury panels.
