Jess Spaulding steps down as PepsiCo Canada CMO to take new role in U.S.

Jess Spaulding announced Monday that her time as CMO of PepsiCo Canada has come to an end.

Spaulding, who took on the CMO position in April 2022, said in a LinkedIn post that she will be moving back to the U.S. to take a role in which she will lead marketing for food master brands and portfolio transformation at PepsiCo Foods.

“Reflecting on the past couple of years, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude – especially for the exceptional PFC leadership team, Game Changer marketing department and agencies I had the privilege to work alongside,” Spaulding wrote on LinkedIn. “Together, we pushed boundaries, built breakthrough creative campaigns, and elevated our brands in ways I’m deeply proud of, and even took home some hardware in the process. The passion, talent and collaboration across our group inspired me every single day.”

One of Spaulding’s first campaigns after taking the Canadian CMO role came in the fall of 2022, when she worked with agency Citizen Relations to erect a 17-foot statue of fingertips holding a Cheetos puff, a.k.a. Cheetle, in the town of Cheadle, Alta. The worked gained viral attention and earned acclaim as the winner of Silver and Bronze Lions at Cannes and Gold at both strategy’s Marketing Awards and the Media Innovation Awards.

Spaulding began her career with PepsiCo Foods in the U.S. in 2009 as a marketing manager and worked her way up through roles such as director of marketing of Quaker ready-to-eat cereals and senior director of brand marketing at Frito Lay before becoming head of Cheetos marketing in the lead up to landing the CMO title.

On LinkedIn, Spaulding expressed gratitude to her colleagues in Canada that welcomed her and her family at the company.

“While it’s bittersweet to leave such an amazing team and community, I’m energized by what’s ahead. I’m looking forward to this next chapter – continuing to build iconic brands, champion creativity, and deliver impact at scale,” Spaulding said.
